This body of work explores the physical, material and psychological languages of spaces and places. Expanded painting serves as a constant to explore the intersection of the pictorial and sculptural experience. An evocation of a place is suggested within the pictorial images that appear throughout.
The different modes, languages and systems of image making and representation interest me - how an image is made, what remains of the image, when does the image become undone, read as texture, or move into experiential territory. The catalyst for much of my work is often a found colour, a material surface quality, or my own film photographs of noticings and encounters within the streets.
In this work, I aimed to reflect this receptiveness to space, architecture, and the somatic experiences inherent in existing, inhabiting and dwelling in place. Rather than creating an installation or an environment where the viewer is the protagonist, my response to space proposes an encounter where there is an equal hierarchy between person, place, object and subject.
