My painted constructions deal with the language of representational painting and assemblage working in tandem. Finding materials to work with and the coincidental nature of bringing disparate materials together to create a unified whole is a challenge I set myself. I aim to create an equal viewing experience between surface and depicted illusion of the painting represented within. Considering the painted image as another texture or surface and its relationship to the overall composition of the assemblage eliminates this hierarchy, where no element takes precedence.

Through making these low relief painted constructions, I became increasingly interested in the reverse side, which revealed the workings out. This prompted me to think about the viewing of my works, not just as painted reliefs, but as three-dimensional objects.
